Our Vision

Plym Bridge Nursery School and Children's Centre has grown out of our well established Nursery School. In true Nursery School tradition, Plym Bridge is one of the younger ones itself having grown from a Nursery Unit into an Maintained Nursery School in  1985. It was designated as a 'Phase 1' Children's Centre in 2006 and works to meet the needs of the 30% most disadvantaged families.

The Nursery School has 62 full time equivalent nursery education spaces and offers sessions to children (3 and 4 year olds) mainly 5 mornings or 5 afternoons a week.  Some children in exceptional circumstances, developmental or social are offered all-day spaces. Within the Nursery School there are an additional 15 day care spaces which can be paid for by parents.

The 'Little Nursery' has space for 45 children. No more than 38 can be under 3 years old and, of these, no more than 18 can be under 2 years old.

Whilst the care and development of young children lies at the heart of Plym Bridge Nursery School and Children's Centre, we recognise that each of our children is part of a family.  Families come in many shapes and sizes with a wide variety of strengths and vulnerabilities. In supporting our children we have developed ways of supporting their parent(s) and their family.

There are a wide range of sessions for parent, mothers, and parents and children run on a weekly basis and we are developing sessions which will interest fathers more.  These sessions are run by centre staff, supported by staff from other disciplines and some are run by staff from other agencies supported by centre staff.

The future work for the centre will increasingly be about developing service for parents in the wider locality that the centre covers.  this includes people living in Belliver, Widewell, Glenholt, Derriford, Leigham and Mainstone as well as those in Estover and Thornbury who the Nursery School had traditionally worked with.

Colleagues in Health and Social Care, in Private and Voluntary Service and parents in the communities will be invited to join our Stakeholders group which will identify and plan to meet identified needs both nationally and locally divided. The Stakeholders group will have an important role in keeping the Nursery School Governing Body informed of progress and needs so that the Governors can plan budgets appropriately and monitor the work of the Nursery School and Children's Centre.

We have a delightful building here at Plym Bridge in which to carry out our work but must develop services in other parts of our reach area.  The inclusive, caring and supportive ethos which has developed within the building here must spread throughout the activities we offer and support elsewhere.
